About

Geoff's ugly mug

Site History

The name "Ducksnorts" refers to a bloop base hit and is one of the author's favorite baseball-related phrases. He first heard it used by Ken Harrelson and Tom Paciorek on WGN and has been fond of it ever since.

Creator Bio

Born in Boston in 1969, Geoff was raised in Los Angeles and has lived in San Diego since 1987. He graduated from the University of San Diego with an oh-so-useful B.A. degree in English. Geoff began following baseball seriously during the late-1970s, listening to Tommy Lasorda's Dodgers on KABC radio most every night. He stuck with the Dodgers till the early-90s, when he switched allegiances to the Padres, of which he has been a fan since.

When not watching games or poring over box scores, Geoff works as a Web Editor for SAIC; plays guitar and sings with San Diego based classic rock cover band Chin Waggers; and hangs out at home with his wife, Sandra, and two dogs, Toby and Smitty.

Technical Info

Ducksnorts is best viewed using Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 5+ at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolutions. At one point, Ducksnorts also worked on versions of IE 4 and Netscape 4+, for both Windows and Mac machines, as well as on Konqueror 3.0.0 for SuSE 8.0, but I haven't used any of those in some time so I can no longer vouch for them. If you encounter problems with Ducksnorts, please let me know what browser and operating system you're using and I'll be happy to investigate.

Pages are created in Crimson Editor; occasionally Microsoft Office is used--particularly Excel in the creation of complex tables. Graphics are created and/or edited in Paint Shop Pro 8. Photographs are taken using an Olympus D-510 Zoom digital camera with USB support. SmartFTP is used to upload the pages to the server, which is maintained by Myacen.

The primary machines used by the author are a Micron Millenia Pentium III 866 with 576 MB RAM and a 19-inch Micron monitor, and a late model Hewlett-Packard notebook with obscene amounts of RAM and storage space (too lazy to look up the exact specs, but it's fast and powerful).
